Elva Anderson has earned a B.F.A in Communication Arts and Design from Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, Virginia, a M.P.S in Creative Art Therapy and Creativity Development from Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, New York, and a Ph.D. in Expressive Therapies from Lesley University in Cambridge, Massachusetts.

Dr. Elva Anderson has been a practicing creative arts therapist, clinical supervisor, and counselor for over 15 years working in New York City and Washington, D.C. 

Elva’s personal mission is to assist in empowering people to transform their lives from the inside out. Her treatment style blends the expressive arts therapies (art, music, dance/movement, poetry, and drama/improvisation) with clinical treatment.

Elva has conducted workshops and presentations with the Smithsonian Institute’s Anacostia Community Museum and the National Museum of African Art, Girls, Inc. DC, the George Washington University Graduate Art Therapy Program, the Howard University School of Social Work, Columbia University’s Teachers College, the University of District of Columbia, Sasha Bruce, the D.C. Department of Parks and Recreation, etc…

She has also received post graduate educational work with The Washington School of Psychiatry.

In 2008, Elva was awarded the Distinguished Service Award from the Potomac Art Therapy Association (PATA) for making significant contributions to the community.
